- Kuusisaari 08.06.98 -- Recent information from the International Floorball Federation, floorball's governing
body, states that the Huskies, and Juha Mikkola, have been a hot topic
in one IFF meeting, back in 1996. The reason for this was the name of our
website - the IFA website is always displayed before the IFF website in
search engines, causing potential visitors confusion. The decision by the
IFF was to suggest changing the IFA League's name, via Pekka
Mukkala, but this request was denied by Juha Mikkola at the time.
- Ruoholahti 10.12 -- The future of the IFA League is still unsure, no
plans were made to continue the league after the Christmas vacation. Unfortunately,
Richard Cousins will be unable to make it to any afterschool activities
in the next quarter. There may be a league, however, if everything is organized
properly. In any case, hockey will be played at ISH, even in the form of
friendly games, if nothing else. The two teams who would definately continue
in the league are the ISH Huskies and Helsinki Jokers. The ISH Puppies
would most likely be knocked to a second division, consisting of new teams
of a lower age group. The Donuts are not sure if they will continue. The
possibility of adding new teams would be seriously considered (see related
story Ruoholahti 19.11).
- Ruoholahti 10.12 -- The Helsinki Jokers win the IFA league gold medal
with a 8-3 victory over the ISH Huskies. Some comments made after the game
include:
- "I definately had an off-night, but as the goaltender I shouldn't.
I had a job to do out there, and I left it un-done. I take full responsibility
[for the loss]", Huskies' goaltender Juha Mikkola.
- "The defense should be blamed [for the Huskies' loss], not the
goalkeeper", IFA league fan Berk Akçal.
- "It was really fun to play this season. The Huskies gave us a
good fight. I'm very happy for our team", Jokers' forward Mikko Salonen.
- "Tonight, the Huskies didn't show much concentration. We went
into the game as if we were afraid to lose. We had many scoring oppurtunities,
but we couldn't take advantage of them", Huskies' alternate captain
Burak Akçal.
- Ruoholahti 03.12 -- The Tapiola Donuts captured the IFA league bronze
medal today with a 13-5 victory over the improving ISH Puppies. Even though
the Donuts played a good game, credit must be given to the Puppies who
scored 2 more goals in this game than they did in all previous league games
combined. The Puppies also surrendered less goals in this game than they
ever had. The Puppies' top star was Thomas Kohanevic who captured (1+4)=5
points from five goals. Also, good coaching came from Huskies' goaltender
Juha Mikkola. For the Donuts, solid goaltending came from newcomer Risto
Arasola (5.00, .906), and the offense was secured by captain Joona Auvinen
(4+1)=5 points and alternate Sam Bruhn (3+2)=5 points.
- Tapiola 01.12 -- The Tapiola Donuts have forfeitted their decisive
game against the Helsinki Jokers. This gives the Jokers a clear path to
the final where they will tackle the ISH Huskies. For more information,
see the boxscore for Jokers at Huskies.
- Ruoholahti 26.11 -- The Helsinki Jokers made IFA league history today
by scoring 25 goals against the struggling ISH Puppies. The Jokers also
scored 12 third period goals, another impressive feat. Leading the charge
were players Laine, Torvinen, and Salonen, who combined for (17+14)=31
points. The Puppies managed only one goal. The victory strengthens the
chances for the Jokers to make the finals, meaning that the decision will
be left until their match-up with the Donuts.
- Ruoholahti 19.11 -- The Huskies sealed a perfect 3-0 regular season
campaign today with a 9-3 victory over the struggling Tapiola Donuts. The
Huskies also confirmed their place in the finals. Assuming the Jokers could
defeat the ISH Puppies, the last league game would decide the Huskies'
finals partner. The last game will feature the Tapiola Donuts and the Helsinki
Jokers. Goal differential would not be needed to decide the better of the
two teams, as ties are not possible in the IFA league. The Puppies have
already lost chances to the finals, and are waiting to see who they face
in the bronze game.
- Ruoholahti 19.11 -- The possibility of adding up to three new expansion
teams to the IFA league has come up. The three teams would commence playing
after the Christmas holidays, if the league is allowed to continue. The
three teams would be one organized by Anton Khreliats, another by his younger
brother, and the third team would possibly be from the Kulosaaren Yhteiskoulu.
The KYK entry, most likely, would be made up of players in the 6-8 grade
age-group. This would make them a prime adversary to the ISH Puppies. The
other teams would be made up of older players.
- Tapiola 26.10 -- Latest news from the Donuts' camp... the team has
decided to hold onto both Porraskorpi and Makkonen, two players who were
torn by disagreements. In an announcement, it was said that the two players
have come to terms, and will continue playing with each other on the same
team. This comes after a multitude of rumours of where these two players
would end up.
- Kuusisaari 26.10 -- Huskies' goalie Juha Mikkola has apparently re-sprained
his back. Complaining of back pains for the whole pre-season, causing him
to miss one game, the new injury seemed to aggrevate the same area. It
is unsure if Mikkola will play next Tuesday against the Jokers.
- Tapiola 25.10 -- Rumour now has it that Donuts' player and goalie Antti
Makkonen is leaving and heading to the Jokers. An argument between him
and Juha Porraskorpi has led to sour feelings between them, meaning probably
one will have to go. We will have to wait to see which one, though...
- Tapiola 23.10 -- A rumour out of the Donuts' organization has it that
star forward Juha Porraskorpi is headed out. Apparently, a disagreement
between players Porraskorpi and Antti Makkonen has fueled the decision.
A trade for Vesa Mikkola, of the Huskies', was thought most probable.
- Kuusisaari 23.10 -- The IFA League has found an expansion team, the
Helsinki Jokers, to take up the fourth, and final, spot in the first ever
run of the league. The Jokers are being put together by players Petri Torvinen
and Mikko Salonen. The Jokers will travel to take on the ISH Huskies for
their first game on opening night.
- Ruoholahti 23.10 -- Richard Cousins has reportedly told an IFA league
representative that there will be no league in the 3rd quarter of the school
year. There seemed to be no reason given, but the decision had not been
'final' nor 'binding'. Talks were supposedly to resume later, closer to
the mentioned time span.
